Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the 2013 Hurricane Season graphics.

It looks like we finally have some uniformity in the graphics department now.

I think the flag is excessive and looks chintzy, but you're right, uniformity is good I suppose.

What kind of icons are these?

The Weather Channel's The Big 4Cast

Sanity has clearly gone out the window in the graphics department.   :footinmouth:

What do they mean by "first upfront in 5 years"?

My guess is it is their first public UpFront programming conference/release/whatever since 2008, when there was all the HD hype.

This might be a little unrelated, but weather.com (and possibly TWC on-air - I haven't looked yet) has slightly updated graphics for their thunderstorm outlook.  They sure do like the use of 3D-looking effects. :P

What IS this? Are they making their graphics in Powerpoint '07?! This is so damn dated looking it's not even funny! Agh! What happened to the graphics artist who relaunched WUWA and YWT the last time around? Those were what TV graphics should look like.

My Saturday

I go to Best Buy and get my HP Pavilion DV6700 laptop looked at because it started up with a buzzing sound and popped up with a black screen saying "Operating System Not Found." I come to find out that the laptop's hard drive has failed and has to be replaced. So i buy the new HD which was $53 dollars and i was told by Geek Squad to contact HP to purchase Windows Vista recovery disks from them.

After leaving Best Buy i come home and call HP and give them my computer's S/N and P/N to see if they have the disks, come to find out they don't manufacture them anymore. So now i call Geek Squad again and told them what HP said and they told me to Purchase Win 7 which i look online and find out that it isn't compatible with my computer.

Finally i call back Geek Squad and tell them about the Incompatibility and they said to bring back the receipt and hard drive to be fully reimbursed for the purchase.

Lucky my parents will let me use their laptop and Desktop for the time being, now after having the laptop since 2008 become incompatible with Win 7 it looks like even if i started watching TWC again in the future when the IS2 comes to Massachusetts i won't have a compatible computer for my Hauppauge HVR-950Q to upload video clips to youtube anymore.

It can't run 7 but it CAN run Vista. That doesn't sound right. They told me the same thing about my dv4 in 2009. Welp, my mom now uses it and loves her some Windows 7 Home Premium...

They need a better green screen backdrop for the taped Dr. Forbes segments then this,

It has the appearance of a sci-fi tv show set.

TWC logic: We've got a giant HD-capable set, and several ancillary sets throughout the building with a variety of backdrops....let's design a tacky greenscreen background because it looks COOOOOOOL!!!!  :footinmouth: That's distracting as all get-out.

I think I'm in the minority, but I miss the large LDL.  It contained so much more weather information, and, considering how weather information is at such a premium on TWC right now, it could be very useful.

The weather information is definitely a plus, but there's just too much going on on-screen for me personally. The lower 3rd looks too compressed, and it makes the frame really bottom-heavy, visually. Even now, with the show title, motion-layered (and icky) red lower 3rd, and rather poor-looking LDL at the bottom of the screen, it looks cluttered. There's no graphical unity. Shame they didn't take all of the new graphics in the same direction as the previous WUWA and final YWT graphics set-those were slick, and professional looking. Wx Center Live just looks cheesy as all get-out, and don't even get me started on the map framing....

Graphically speaking, both make me cringe.  :footinmouth: However, the former style is the lesser of two evils. Of course, it's going to disappear though, eventually.

Was watching my feed from Missoula when this came on over it. Cow-tipping goes out of fashion in winter here, so it would seem. Guess someone got pretty bored. Wonder how much they had to hack through to get into the system..

I also just got Windows 7.  I was a little nervous I was going to have Windows 8...I haven't heard great things.

I use both every day, along with OS X . I love them both.

The average viewer doesn't care about graphics..they just want their weather forecast before heading out to work or school

Exactly.

The Weather Channel is boring. boring. boring(: Twilight. Justin Bieber. And MSNBC  is more entertaining to watch. They could attract more viewers if there graphics were unified and had a theme. Having graphics that are all mixed together all the way from 2008 is unappealing and does not want to make you keep watching.

To people who actually pay attention to things like that. Everyone's eyes here are trained on things like that, because we're not the average viewer. Some of us work in or are studying graphic design, television production, or film production, and to us they stick out like a sore thumb. But ask-and I have-an average viewer...ask several, actually, why they don't watch, and they will say "I can't find the weather anymore." This problem has been discussed ad nauseum, and I don't want to drag it out again. It's not the graphics that make people disinterested in watching. Maybe to us, not to them.

I personally miss the "organic" feel of the not-too-distant past...

The Weather Channel - Stephen Arnold Music

Ughhh... id rather have those days come back then have all the money in the world. :(

Uhmm...let's be rational now. I'd love to have them or a nice, unified graphics theme return the the channel, but at the end of the day, it doesn't really matter to our lives. So, take a step back look at it in a different perspective.
